Our Doctors

Dr. Steven Eyler received his Doctor of Optometry degree from The Ohio State University in 1977 and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. He currently serves as President of the N.C. State Optometric Society for 2013-2014.  Dr. Eyler is a past president of the National Board of Examiners in Optometry, the Association of Regulatory Boards in Optometry and the N.C. State Board of Optometry.  Dr. Eyler is married and has two children.

Dr. Kenneth Best is a graduate of North Carolina State University and received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1982. He is a past president of the Piedmont Optometric Society, a former Trustee for the NC State Optometric Society and a former clinical examiner for the N.C. State Board of Optometry. Dr. Best is married and has three children.

Dr. Magda Metwalli Dr. Maggie Metwalli received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Michigan College of Optometry in 1995 and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. She completed a residency program at SUNY State College of Optometry in corneal disease and contact lenses, followed by a one year research fellowship in contact lenses and laser vision correction. Prior to joining our practice in 1999, Dr. Metwalli was the staff optometrist and contact lens specialist at the Duke University Eye Center in Durham, NC. Dr. Metwalli is married and has two children.

Dr. Robert Hamp received his Doctor of Optometry degree from Northeastern State University in 2000 and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. He completed a residency in Family Practice at Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. Dr. Hamp is a past-president of the Piedmont Optometric Society and a former Trustee for the NC State Optometric Society. He has also served as a clinical examiner for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry. Dr. Hamp is married and has two children.

Dr. Norva Elaine Osborne is a 1991 Cum Laude graduate of North Carolina State University and received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Alabama School of Optometry in 1995. She completed her residency at the VA Hospital in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 1996 and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. Prior to joining our practice, Dr. Osborne was the Staff Optometrist and Low Vision Specialist at the Waco VA Hospital and Waco Blind Rehabilitation Unit in Waco, Texas.  Dr. Osborne is married.

Dr. Kalene Fix is a 2004 graduate of the University of Iowa and received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry in 2008. She then completed an ocular disease/primary care residency at the Boston VA Healthcare System in Boston, MA. She has lived in several places throughout her life but moved to North Carolina in 2009.

Dr. Valerie Wise received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Missouri/St. Louis School of Optometry. She completed her studies with a residency in ocular disease/laser vision correction at the O'Donnell Eye Institute, St. Louis. Dr. Wise has been in optometric practice for 20 years. She is married and has 2 children.

Stephen Eckel Dr. Stephen “Myles” Eckel is a graduate of North Carolina State University and received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 2013. He completed an externship at both the Feinbloom Low Vision Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the Charlotte VA Medical Center. He was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. Dr. Eckel is married.
